June 5, 2024 – Herrick News
The New York Times

Herrick, Feinstein mourns the passing of our cherished colleague, retired partner and dear friend, Paul R. Herman. Paul joined our firm in 1972 and became a partner six months later. He chaired our Trusts and Estates Group (which later became our Private Clients Group) for over 40 years before becoming Counsel in 2014 and retiring at the end of 2023. Paul was a brilliant lawyer, a very creative problem solver and a wise counselor. Throughout his long career he helped wealthy families-- both in the U.S. and non-residents--minimize the impact of gift and estate taxes. He also was an advisor to public charities and private foundations. Paul served on the boards of several publicly supported charities and was an officer and trustee of the Jewish Braille Institute. He lectured on estate planning and tax law developments for business and educational organizations, including New York University Law School, the New York Practicing Law Institute, as well as for charitable organizations. His articles on estate planning appeared in various publications.
